The West Orange Chamber of Commerce, as a business, continually evaluates its products & services to determine their effectiveness, their relevance and how to adapt them for the current economy and the future. With this in mind, the Chamber Board, made up of small, medium and large businesses, representing the geographic scope of West Orange, attended a retreat that was designed to provide a strategic foundation for 2011 and beyond. The Board accomplished this by answering the following questions:

  • Purpose – Why do we exist? The West Orange Chamber of Commerce exists to serve by “Facilitating Opportunity.”
  • Vision – Where are we going? The West Orange Chamber of Commerce builds partnerships, strong businesses and commitment to the community by serving as the leading business advocate in Central Florida
  • Missions – How are we going to get there? • Involvement in advocacy; being one voice for our members • Providing high quality programs and being results oriented – measurable • Serving the Business Community: Communicating, Recruiting, retaining and developing business leaders and Growing the membership
  • Values – What is important along the way? • Integrity • Effectiveness • Quality • Accountability • Fun

So what do we mean when we say “Facilitating Opportunity”? “Facilitating” encompasses: The WOCC is your quarterback, providing resources and tools, creating a plan of action for businesses to use as a blueprint, providing forums, listening and responding, implementing, hosting events, communicating and distributing information, advocating, providing outreach of offerings. “Opportunity” encompasses: resolving business and community issues, helping you grow your business by offering business leads, networking, expanding relationships, giving back to the community, promoting your business. “Facilitating Opportunity” is working together, partnering with one another and the Chamber to help us all reach the higher fruit. We all have the same goal; to grow our business, make it work more efficiently, smarter and promote our business to one another and the community.

What does “Facilitating Opportunity” mean to you and your business? How can the Chamber help you reach your higher fruit? Tell us how we have already “Facilitated Opportunity” for you, in other words, your testimonial or how we may “Facilitate Opportunity” for you and your business. “Facilitating Opportunity” is collaboration between the Chamber and our businesses. Help us to help YOU! By “Facilitating Opportunity”, the West Orange Chamber of Commerce will achieve its vision by 2020.

The West Orange Chamber of Commerce builds partnerships, strong businesses and commitment to the community by serving as the leading business advocate in Central Florida. The word is out and the West Orange Chamber of Commerce is living up to our purpose of “Facilitating Opportunity”. The West Orange Chamber can Facilitate Opportunity for you too!

I’ve been working out with Andrew Noble, personal trainer at Smart Fitness, since July. At first I was reluctant to start since I’m over 40 and I haven’t done much weight training since College. I try to stay active, playing basketball a few times a week, but as far as weight training, I avoided it due to various nagging injuries (and laziness).

Smart Fitness is a different type of Fitness place. First it’s a boutique gym with mostly one-on-one appointments. Andrew uses all nautilus equipment and specializes in slow resistance training which helps prevent injuries. He keeps the gym cool and his work outs are just 20 minutes, twice a week. The schedule allows you to come in before work, between appointments, or during a lunch break. Because he keeps the gym so cool, you can come in dressed for work and not worry about having to change. I’ve come in several times right before meetings or heading down to the Convention Center.

Finally, results! I never thought I could get a complete workout in just 20 minutes twice a week, but it works. The slow resistance training allows you to keep the muscles working just as long as if you were doing 2 or 3 times the reps. This allows us to get a complete workout done in 1/3 of the time. Bottom line, I leave each session feeling satisfied and as far as the nagging injuries, Andrew has worked with me to overcome them and I have watched as my strength has steadily increased without incident. Andrew Noble gives free consults and a free trial workout for first timers. So if your 40 plus and thinking about getting back in shape, he’s worth a call. His website is http://www.gosmartfitness.com.

If you have not been to this Hardee’s restaurant at 5212 Silver Star Road,  you are missing out.  Not your average fast food restaurant.  This is family owned and operated and they treat you like family.  The interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food is delicious.  Their chicken tenders are second to none and burgers are juicy.  Thank you Tim for serving West Orange County great fast food for more years than I can count.  Let’s just say I used to visit while I was in high school - 19 .. . something smile

Always a privilege to spend time with Dr Darlene Treese (Effective Hypnosis and Counseling, PLLC)!  I met with Darlene in her new office, and may I say it is impressive. The colors and decorating automatically calm and relax you when you walk through her door.  If you get in the Metro West area,  it’s worth stopping in!

Major kudos to Michael McNally from the Microsoft Store at the Milenia Mall and the West Orange Chamber of Commerce and their Lunch and Learn series. Several months back the Microsoft Store presented at Lunch and Learn and told Chamber members of a service they provide FREE of charge to repair computers with microsoft software regardless of weather or not you purchased the computer or programs from the store. Well after several phone calls and visits to other companies who wanted to charge $199 for just a diagnostic I decided to take the Microsoft Store up on the challenge.  Bottom line, the Microsoft Stores service and knowledge on how to fix my computer problem was superior to any one else I’ve dealt with in years…and yes they provided the service FREE of charge. THANK YOU!!!!

Many thanks to Cindy Brown from Congressman Daniel Webster’s office.  I had a very distraught parent in my office wanting to contact a State government official regarding FSA testing.  When I spoke with Cindy she was very informative and recommended my client to first contact her State Representative/Senator for the Florida Sate House.  She felt this was imperative since they were currently in session in Tallahassee and discussing the topic of education.  She then offered to meet with my client to bring her concerns to Congressman Webster’s attention since he likes to be kept informed of the issues that matter to his constituents here at home.

Today is Plant Street Market’s soft opening and the market was buzzing with curious shoppers, myself included.  The Plant Street Market and Crooked Can Brewery is Winter Gardens newest “hip” hang out.  I wasn’t able to leave without a few purchases like an air plant from Petal Pushers and macaroons from David Ramierz Chocolates.  You really need to check out all the vendors.

I’ve just started a new line of my jewelry. I’m now making personalized silver paw prints for pet owners! I’m so excited.

A big thank you to Paul and his team at http://www.ocoee-fl.minutemanpress.com
I wanted to get some new flyers printed and new business cards specifically for this paw print line. I’ve used Minuteman Ocoee several times before and once again they did an awesome job! I booked a show for Feb 14th, with no flyers, no biz cards, no order forms and I was worried it was too short notice to get everything ready in time. Well, I just picked up flyers and biz cards today and they are perfect and great quality as usual. The staff at Minuteman are always happy to help and talk you through anything. Thank you Miguel for your help today!

this morning at our Wednesday morning Too Jays networking group I sat with a potential new CHAMBER member and owner of Grade Power learning Center here in Ocoee. Gina Geloso was telling me that she is looking for a marketing company to help her with her advertising in our area, so I emailed an email introduction to Marc Jablon and Jason over at boost marketing and Marc reached out to her before we even left the breakfast, we also talked about how our AFLAC Products can help her offer some affordable benefits to her employee’s, so it was a great successful breakfast meeting this morning, connecting all over the place. I also invited Gina to one of our lead and feed groups as well…

A big thank you to Denise Fisher with AFLAC for inviting Boost Marketing to present at the AFLAC Kickoff Meeting. Denise went above and beyond just inviting us to attend the meeting. Denise walked her fellow agents to our table, personally endorsed our services, and followed up after the event with emails. Denise Fisher defines “Facilitating Opportunity” and we can’t thank her enough for her continued support.

Many thanks to Heather Papoulis and Too Jays (http://www.toojays.com) catering for providing a wonderful lunch for my sales team. I chose TooJays so I could show my team members how they can use a first class catering service to provide lunch for doctors offices and small businesses who will sit down and speak with us about their small group health insurance. Heather and her team really came through.

On a personal note, I have my own business, Koality Art Glass.  I have been needing and putting off getting polo shirts for classes and presentations - not knowing anyone from all the options in Central Florida.  Being part of the Tuesday Morning Group, I met Richard Starcher of Safeguard.  Richard not only got me what I wanted - he did better and directed me in getting my visual message across with not only by the polos but revamped business cards.  I have NEVER had so many compliments.

I have not had the pleasure of using Too Jays catering services but am very anxious to use them for future client “Lunch and Learn” meetings.  I wanted to thanks Heather Papoulis for being patient with me and answering my questions as they come up base on when and where my next opportunity will be.  The quick response time that Heather gives me is exactly why, when I am ready to use catering services, she will be the first person I call.  In fact, I am emailing her first thing in the morning to order a delicious breakfast basket for a meeting I am going to on Thursday.

I can’t say enough about Pat Orr and South Hill designs.  I remember the first time I met Pat and fell in love with her necklace.  Ok, I know it helps that I like the product but Pat is the easiest person to do business with.  Her jewelry line is always introducing new and seasonal products and Pat shows you how to create the perfect piece just for you or who your creating the jewelry for.  Pat has so many creative ideas, just check out her jewelry next time you see her.  You will want to create your own piece and Pat is just the person to help you.

I find Chonteau to be one of the most calming people I have ever met.  From the moment I heard her speak about what she does I have been interested in taking one of her classes.  My daughter and I finally took her meditation class last week.  I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful you feel when you leave.  My daughter told me she has been practicing what we learned and is sleeping better than ever.  I am learning to take time for me and de-stress during my hectic work day.  I am looking forward to another class very soon.  Thanks Chonteau.  Oh, by the way, her husband makes the best cookies ever and if you take her class you will not only get some hot tea but maybe a homemeade cookie.

I have had the pleasure of meeting with not only Mark but was honored to give he and his son a tour of our billboard facility.  While taking with Mark I learned a lot about what he does and how he can help you market yourself.  Today as I was asking for advice from another member for a friend, he graciously offered to consult with her free of charge.  It is so nice to know that there are people like Mark that are truly interested in helping others by putting their needs before his own.  He will be the first person I refer people to the next time they are in need of marketing advice.  Thanks Mark!

I used Aussie Pet Mobile services for my daughters Golden Doodle 2 weeks ago and loved the service and results.  Her puppy Riley was so cute.  I liked the service so much that I hired them to groom my Portuguese Water Dog this past Friday and was just as pleased.  My Madi girl has never looked better.  How nice it was to have them ring the door bell and take the dog into the vehicle while I waited inside and did my chores.  I will use them again in the future and recommend their services to anyone with a pet in need of grooming.  Their prices are comparable to other groomers and they come to you!!
