WOPA (West Orange Political Alliance)

* | Show/Hide

Bob Gosselin, Chairman

Gosselin Realty

The West Orange Political Alliance, “The Alliance”, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization formed in December 1997 to provide the first, formal political force focused on candidates and issues that are important to West Orange County.

The WOCC serves many purposes and provides many benefits to its members, yet cannot endorse political candidates. Understanding this, many people within the WOCC and the West Orange community realized the need for a political voice for West Orange. This led to the formation of W.O.P.A., a non-profit, non-partisan organization for West Orange County. Its board is made up of individuals that represent West Orange County and its interests. The Chairman and President of the WOCC serve as ex-officio members of the board and the Chamber Board of Directors appoints an additional four board members.

In the past, most of the political clout defaulted to downtown Orlando. When politicians or the media spoke of Central Florida, many automatically assumed they meant Orlando. Now, as the fastest growing area of Central Florida, West Orange County demands attention.

In the past, individuals and businesses were on their own politically, speaking on issues with a multitude of individual voices. The Alliance provides the first, formal organized group that represents multiple and diverse interests-politically, such as making sure our growth is responsible and that we have the infrastructure to maintain our quality of life.

The Alliance requires a super-majority vote by its Board of Directors before any position or candidate may be supported or endorsed. The Alliance is governed by a set of by-laws already approved by Florida’s Division of Elections.

To increase the influence of our already strong Alliance, we need the continuing increased support of our citizens and business/professional community. The Alliance’s membership exceeds 300.

* To stimulate a more active and effective role of the citizenry in government affairs.

* To raise funds and provide support to candidates, without regard to party affiliations.

* To participate in support of or opposition to local or statewide issues.
