The West Orange Chamber of Commerce, as a business, continually evaluates its products & services to determine their effectiveness, their relevance and how to adapt them for the current economy and the future. With this in mind, the Chamber Board, made up of small, medium and large businesses, representing the geographic scope of West Orange, attended a retreat that was designed to provide a strategic foundation for 2011 and beyond. The Board accomplished this by answering the following questions:
Purpose – Why do we exist? The West Orange Chamber of Commerce exists to serve by “Facilitating Opportunity.”
Vision – Where are we going? The West Orange Chamber of Commerce builds partnerships, strong businesses and commitment to the community by serving as the leading business advocate in Central Florida
Missions – How are we going to get there? • Involvement in advocacy; being one voice for our members • Providing high quality programs and being results oriented – measurable • Serving the Business Community: Communicating, Recruiting, retaining and developing business leaders and Growing the membership
Values – What is important along the way? • Integrity • Effectiveness • Quality • Accountability • Fun
So what do we mean when we say “Facilitating Opportunity”? “Facilitating” encompasses: The WOCC is your quarterback, providing resources and tools, creating a plan of action for businesses to use as a blueprint, providing forums, listening and responding, implementing, hosting events, communicating and distributing information, advocating, providing outreach of offerings. “Opportunity” encompasses: resolving business and community issues, helping you grow your business by offering business leads, networking, expanding relationships, giving back to the community, promoting your business. “Facilitating Opportunity” is working together, partnering with one another and the Chamber to help us all reach the higher fruit. We all have the same goal; to grow our business, make it work more efficiently, smarter and promote our business to one another and the community.
What does “Facilitating Opportunity” mean to you and your business? How can the Chamber help you reach your higher fruit? Tell us how we have already “Facilitated Opportunity” for you, in other words, your testimonial or how we may “Facilitate Opportunity” for you and your business. “Facilitating Opportunity” is collaboration between the Chamber and our businesses. I wanted to tell everyone that I used Apple Air as my warranty I thought was out of time. They came ON TIME not a 3 hour window they said they would be there at 10am and were. Not only that they checked and I still had a warrenty on my compressor they took care of it all. it was a great experience they were on time, helpful and extremely courteous. Thank you Apple Air.

Best Cleaners has the “best” employees! When I forgot to call to have my cleaning picked up on Thursday and had to take it in on Friday, the person working the desk assured me that it was no problem to have it delivered to my house on Monday, even if she had to take it to the plant herself. Their customer service is second to none!!!

I try to facilitate opportunity as much as possible in the West Orange area and would like to thank ZMAXradio.com, Safeguard Systems of Central Florida, AJS Construction, Jon White, Tee Cambre of Lloyd’s Glass Services, Florida Lakes Title, Upper Cervial Spine Center, Valladares Law Firm and others too numerous to list here for allowing DV8 Computing to help them with their technology needs. I also use these vendors whenever possible for my business as it’s important to refer and utilize their services and products in the local area to accomodate sustainable business as well as future growth within the community.
I would recommend joining a networking group such as the Tuesday or Wednesday morning groups where constructive business ideas and leads are shared each and every week. The Tuesday morning group has been especially beneficial for myself and I find it to be refreshing and rewarding being with other small business owners and representatives and helping funnel ideas to those who need them in these difficult times.
The West Orange Chamber has been good for DV8 Computing and we look forward to a long relationship.

I read that a group in the Bradenton/Sarasota area (presumably their Chamber) has an active recruiting program for business owners & CEO’s vacationing in their area. It focuses on convincing those executives to move their businesses there. If we operate on the principle that you use the resources available to you, West Orange has to have a much larger group of decision-makers visiting here thanks to Disney, Sea World, Universal, etc..
I’d like to see the Chamber at least do some exploration of how it might look if we tried to duplicate that process here.

I would like to see a special meeting or get together of Property Managers, sort of what we had for the food service businesses. I think a lot of people could benefit. The vendors surely would benefit from the meeting, but the Property Managers would get a chance to meet other Chamber businesses.

Fabulous idea, great concept. Today at the WOCC OBJ Morning meeting, I introduced Andy Crabtree of Crabtree Ink to Aspacia Lindstrop of Gen 2 Media, they can do video for your Web page, advertising on your page and a whole lot more!
I also introduced Melissa Jean of Hampton Inn & Suites Clermont to Sandy Hodkin.
