(Winter Garden, FL)— May 18, 2016…The West Orange Political Alliance (WOPA), the leading voice of support for candidates and issues that positively affect growth and economic development in West Orange County, is pleased to announce early endorsements for the 2016 Primary elections. They are: Orange County Commission District 1, Betsy VanderLey, and incumbents Pete Clarke in District 3 and Ted Edwards in District 5.

Betsy VanderLey serves as the Chairman of the Government Affairs and Advocacy Committee of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce (WOCC). She is a WOCC Chairman’s Award recipient, former Chairman of Orange County (OC) Planning & Zoning Commission and was awarded the OC District 1 Citizen of the Year by Commissioner Scott Boyd. “Endorsements, such as the one to Ms. VanderLey, are made after thorough review of all the candidates and those selected represent the best for our community,” said Mark Griffith, WOPA Chairman, “and we are confident that the people we endorsed will support the needs of the business community in West Orange County.”

In addition to the county races and state races, the WOPA Board is one of very few that look at the candidates running for the various judgeships in Orange County and the 9th Judicial Circuit Court. Endorsements also go out to Judge Dan Traver in Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, Group 14 and Luis Calderon in Group 4. Orange County Judgeship endorsements go to Eric DuBois for Group 1, Tom Young for Group 4, and Mark Anthony Arias in Group 5.

Chairman Griffith states, “A business group should consider these races and the best candidates since they will render decisions each day that can have tremendous impact on a community, including the business community.” Additional endorsements in state and county races will be forthcoming in the next two months.

The West Orange Political Alliance, Inc. is a non-profit, non-partisan organization formed to provide an active political voice in the interests of West Orange County. WOPA is governed by a set of by-laws approved by Florida’s Division of Elections.
