Central Florida Political Leadership Institute announces 2017 applications now being accepted

The Central Florida Political Leadership Institute (PLI) announced applications are now being accepted for the 2017 PLI Class through Friday, June 30, 2017. PLI is an innovative, groundbreaking initiative designed to strengthen and equip the region’s future leaders with training prior to their decision to run for public office. Since its inception in 2008, 17 graduates have served in public office in our region.

The 2017 Political Leadership Institute sessions will be held Thursday, September 21 through Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the GuideWell Innovation Center in Lake Nona Medical City. During the course of the bipartisan three-day session, Institute participants will hear from prominent local, state and national experts discussing a broad range of topics – government, media, campaigning, fundraising, grassroots, polling and data targeting, ethics and key public policy issues. Following the campaign school, participants will undergo numerous leadership activities throughout the year, commit to volunteering on a local campaign, and be invited to attend important networking opportunities within our community.

“Today, we are seeing many new faces who are entering the political arena without a track record or knowledge of how to run a successful campaign. The Central Florida Political Leadership Institute was designed to address these concerns, while identifying and encouraging new pro-business leaders, within the seven-county Central Florida region, who may emerge outside of the normal political party channels,” said Craig Swygert, the Chair of BusinessForce who leads the PLI effort. “PLI trains our future officeholders, regardless of political affiliation, on how to campaign, while teaching leadership skills for effective governing and educating participants on critical public policy issues affecting our community,” concluded Swygert, President of the Central Florida Markets at Clear Channel Outdoor.

There is no cost to apply or attend. Applicants from the seven county Central Florida region, which includes Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole and Volusia, are encouraged to apply at www.cflpli.org. PLI is made possible by the support of its sponsors including AT&T, BusinessForce, Clear Channel Outdoor, and the Orlando Economic Partnership.
