The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is scheduled to begin work to widen State Road 408 (Spessard L. Holland East-West Expressway) from Good Homes Road to Hiawassee Road on Monday, November 7. This project is expected to greatly improve travel times and reduce congestion along this busy section of SR 408.

The two-mile, $23.57 million project will add a travel lane in both directions (from two lanes to three lanes), and will widen the ramp from westbound SR 408 to Good Homes Road from one lane to two lanes.

Additional improvements will include:

  • Additional Express Lanes at the SR 408 Hiawassee Road Main Plaza (from four Express Lanes to six Express Lanes)
  • Sound walls
  • Upgraded signage and new roadway lighting

Currently, more than 71,700 vehicles a day travel this stretch of SR 408, making this the second busiest section of SR 408. Traffic volume is expected to increase to more than 108,000 vehicles a day by 2035.
