RECENTLY WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA contacted local Chambers and Business Associations with the sole purpose of awarding grants in exchange for providing educational workforce topics seminars for local businesses to attend. The funding for the grants was provided from stimulus dollars. The Small Business Development Committee of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce jumped on this opportunity which would allow them to furnish members with additional “tools” for their tool boxes. The Small Business Committee completed the application provided to them for consideration as a host location. After review of many applications received by WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA, the West Orange Chamber of Commerce was awarded one of seven grants. Recognizing the dramatic shifts taking place in the workforce, with retirees returning to work, baby boomers working longer and millennial and GenXer’s entering the workplace there is so much to learn in regard to how each group works and ways to motivate, reward, recruit and retain each of these groups .The committee determined an educational seminar based on this information, “Bridging the Generation Gap” would be an asset to the Chamber’s membership while addressing their concerns. "It is a privilege to be provided this opportunity by WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA”, said Anette Luck, Chairman of the Small Business Development committee. “It was such a perfect fit between the goals of our Committee; to provide educational and networking opportunities to our Chamber members, and the mission of WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA, in part, to provide resources and training to today's diverse workforce." “Bridging the Generation Gap” will take place on Tuesday, October 27th from 8:00am- 10:30 am at Valencia Community College, West Campus in the Special Events Center, 1800 S. Kirkman Road. The guest speaker is Professor Michael Shugg of Valencia Community College. The event is a Chamber member benefit and is paid for by the grant awarded to the Chamber. The West Orange community is growing and evolving everyday. The West Orange Chamber is dedicated to showcasing the integrity and professional interests of our members and is proud to represent our community at both the local and state levels.
