Congratulations to the Class of 2020 Graduates Jesse Rigsby from Dr. Phillips High School and Izabella Straka from Windermere High School who were both awarded the Danniel J. Petro Scholarship, which is given in Partnership with the West Orange Foundation and facilitated by the West Orange Chamber of Commerce. Both will be attending UCF this year, Jesse studying Music Education and Izabella studying Theatre and International Business. Way to go graduates!

This scholarship opportunity is provided through the West Orange Foundation, Inc. (WOF) and administrated by the West Orange Chamber of Commerce (WOCC). The scholarship fund was established to make it possible for eligible students from local high schools in Orange County (public or private) to further their education at Valencia College (any campus), Orange Technical College, or the University of Central Florida. The West Orange Foundation is able to fund the scholarships through the generous contributions of the Petro Family Foundation.

In order to qualify, eligible senior students must:

  • Live in one of the following communities (Dr. Phillips, Gotha, Horizon West, Lake Avalon, MetroWest, Oakland, Ocoee, Orlo Vista, Pine Hills, Windermere or Winter Garden);
  • Attend a high school in one of the above service areas;
  • Have a current GPA of 2.75 (either weighted or unweighted); and
  • Have applied to attend Valencia College, the University of Central Florida or Orange Technical College.

Two student recipients will be awarded $2500 scholarships from the Petro Family Foundation.

Eligible students should complete the application in its entirety, which includes a list of activities, leadership positions and honors, community involvement and special recognition awards and honors, along with a personal essay in which they should describe themselves and provide information about their most significant accomplishment. Students may request an application by calling the Chamber office at 407-656-1304.

Submissions will be accepted via email or US Post (when submitted by the due date or postmark date). The applications are typically due in April each year. The due date for 2020 has not been determined yet.
