Last week, the Chamber board met for its monthly meeting, yet this one was not our routine meeting.
This meeting included incoming board members for 2020. To get them off to a good start, Stina shared some history about the Chamber, our purpose, vision, core values and other information we all needed to know as the policy setting and financial oversight group for our Chamber. All of this information was great to hear, even for those like me, who have been involved for many years.
The scope of work our Chamber is involved in can be overwhelming, especially if you actually know all that is available for your business. That got me to thinking about the many programs, activities and resources that our Chamber has and whether or not, you as our members, realize all there is to know.
To facilitate this, I have developed a “Did you know?” list. So, did you know that the Chamber:
Acts as the voice of business, when we’re all busy doing business? The Chamber keeps an eye out for local, state and federal issues that can help or hurt the business community, https://wochamber.com/advocacy/current_initiatives
Promotes tourism for Winter Garden, Ocoee, Oakland and Windermere? We partnered with WG Heritage Foundation and Observer Media to produce a tourism brochure distributed by Visit Florida and through local sources, https://wochamber.com/resources/explore_orlandos_west_side
Hosts Florida Small Development Center at UCF in the Chamber’s Conference room on a monthly basis? This program, which we call “Revive and Thrive” brings an expert to you to assist you with issues, challenges and provides resources to help your business without driving to East Orlando, https://wochamber.com/resources/revive_and_thrive_with_the_florida_sbdc
Has a foundation? It is called West Orange Foundation and it runs Leadership West Orange, the youth leadership program, called WOPTE, provides scholarships to high school students and Thanksgiving baskets for families in need, https://wochamber.com/foundation/west_orange_foundation
Has a political action committee (PAC)? It is called West Orange Political Alliance and its primary purpose is to seek out pro-business candidates that will further the interests of the West Orange business community, https://wochamber.com/advocacy/WOPA
Supports OCPS Teach In? Our support of Teach In is a means for high school students to learn of different career paths, especially those in the talent gap shortage industries, https://wochamber.com/news/news_detail/you_can_make_a_difference
Offers a discount program in partnership with Office Depot, Inc.? We have partnered with Office Depot to provide exclusive savings on many of your business needs, including deep discounts, https://wochamber.com/benefits_programs/office_depot_chamber_savings_program
The Chamber has so many more resources to help your business. I hope you will all actively engage and take advantage to grow your business, gain more knowledge, and expand your world.
Thank you for your continued commitment to the West Orange Business Community!
