Ocoee MLK Day Parade and Celebration to be held on January 20

OCOEE, Fla. – The City of Ocoee’s 14th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Parade and Celebration will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 10 a.m.   The parade honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The parade begins at Citrus Elementary School, 87 North Clarke Road, and ends at the parking lot of the West Oaks Mall on Clarke Road. 

The post-parade celebration will take place in the West Oaks Mall food court at 11 a.m.  Dr. Paul Ortiz will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Ortiz is director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program and professor of history at the University of Florida. His newest book, An African American and Latinx History of the United States is the recipient of the 2018 PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Award for Literary Excellence.  An African American and Latinx History of the United States was published by Beacon Press in January 2018 as part of its Revisioning American History series.
