Property Fraud Alert
According to the FBI, property and mortgage fraud is the fastest growing white-collar crime in the United States. The Orange County Comptroller offers a free service called “Property Fraud Alert” that helps you protect your property from fraud by monitoring documents such as deeds, mortgages and liens that are being recorded in the Orange County Official Records Department.
The Comptroller must record all documents that meet the requirements outlined in the Florida Statutes. If a document is properly executed and presented with payment, it is the responsibility of the Comptroller’s office to record the document. If you sign up for this free service, you will be notified via email or telephone if any documents containing your name are recorded in the Official Records. This free service helps you protect yourself from document fraud or other issues affecting your real estate title.
