In remembrance of the 100-year anniversary of the 1920 Ocoee Election Day Massacre, the City of Ocoee Human Relations Diversity Board will present a four-day educational symposium during the week of November 1st.  The events are open to the public and will be held at the Ocoee Lakeshore Center at 125 North Lakeshore Drive. Attendees must wear face coverings and social distancing will be required. Please see the attached informational flyer.

Program Summary

Sunday, November 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Ocoee Story” – Walk through the history of Ocoee, learning what happened on the night of November 2, 1920 through today. We learn through history and why that is important.

Wednesday, November 4 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“Honoring the Memory” – Join us on a Memorial Walk around the lakefront of Ocoee City Hall to honor the memory of those lost during the 1920 Ocoee Election Day Massacre and declare “Never Again.”

Friday, November 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“Healing the Wound” – Explore with us how our small city has healed over the decades, which has not always been easy. We must move forward by learning.  

Sunday, November 8 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“A Day of Remembrance – Unveiling of Historical Marker” – Join us for our final and most memorable day which will include guest speakers, descendants and the unveiling of the historical marker.
