COVID-19 has rearranged our world. As a result, many of our teachers are seeking creative solutions to keep students engaged in a new virtual learning environment.  We know how difficult this can be for teachers, students and parents, so the CEMEX Florida team has turned our Outdoor Education Curriculum into four fun At-Home Learning Activities. For those not already familiar with our CEMEX Environmental Educational Programs we have six outdoor classrooms that provide an alternative learning environment where students can discover Florida’s delicate ecosystems.

CEMEX Florida Six Classroom Locations:
474 Sand Mine – Clermont, Florida
Center Hill Mine – Center Hill, Florida
Lake Wales Sand Mine – Lake Wales, Florida
Gator Sand Mine – Davenport, Florida
Brooksville Quarry – Brooksville, Florida
FEC Quarry – Miami, Florida

Our At-Home Learning Curriculum Includes:

1.     Map Like A Pirate

2.     Fish for Learning

3.     Nature Walk

4.     Art from the Recycling Bin

The best part? All four lessons apply to Florida’s B.E.S.T Standards.

The At-Home Learning Curriculum can be found on our CEMEX Lake and Hernando County Microsites. Please visit either link to access the curriculum.

Spread the Word

We want to ensure as many students benefit from this curriculum as possible. Don’t forget to spread the word! Please feel free to share these lessons with teachers, parents, students — anyone you think would benefit. I would appreciate the Chamber’s support in distributing our message and link to our West Orange Community.

Building Community Together- We Want to Hear From You

The classroom may be empty, but school’s not out! Just because Florida’s students are learning remotely, doesn’t mean they’re learning alone. We want to encourage parents to take plenty of pictures and share on Facebook to let us know how the lessons go. Teachers and parents can tag us at @CemexFloridaCarolina and include the Hashtag: #BuildingCommunityTogether.
