EVENT SUMMARY
Winter Garden, FL (October 12, 2023) – This October, the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation and Friends of Lake Apopka are collaborating to educate the public on the latest information about the health of the storied lake upon which Winter Garden relies. Joe Dunn, Friends of Lake Apopka (FOLA) board member and former director, will deliver this news along with important historical context at an event entitled The State of the Lake in the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation’s venue, Heller Hall, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
Dunn will outline the lake’s journey from a world-class fishing destination to a polluted, yet steadily recovering, body of water. Restoring Lake Apopka is a herculean task which FOLA and others have worked towards for many decades. This presentation will elucidate the continuing journey of the lake, its impact on our West Orange community, and the strides made by environmental advocacy organizations.
“The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation looks forward to another partnership with Friends of Lake Apopka,“ said Will McCoy, Writer and Curator at the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation. “It’s exciting to inform visitors, new arrivals, and long-time residents about the ecological process which affects their daily lives.”
Members of the public can RSVP for this FREE event by contacting the WGHF at jcrescitelli@wghf.org or 407-656-3244.
About the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation
The mission of the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation is to preserve the heritage and architecture of West Orange County, while creating new cultural experiences. Since 1994, the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation has been an integral part of the preservation and revitalization of historic downtown Winter Garden, fostering an understanding of the social, cultural, economic, and environment transformations that have shaped the area. Today, the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation continues to accomplish its mission by operating three locations in the heart of Winter Garden: The Heritage Museum, The Healthy West Orange Heritage and Cultural Center, which houses an extensive archive documents the area’s past and the Central Florida Railroad Museum, which showcases the influence the railroad has had in the development of Florida.
