Governor DeSantis and Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran yesterday unveiled Reopening Florida’s Schools and the CARES Act plan to reopen schools this fall, and to use federal aid to help youngsters who fell behind during this spring’s shutdown to catch up. Safety will be the priority, as the Governor explained, so that families and employees will have confidence that returning to campus will not create health risks. “We want schools fully opened in the fall because there is no better way to educate our children than to have that teacher in front of that child,” Commissioner Corcoran said. The Governor also announced his plan to spend $64 million in funding to help improve student proficiency statewide to address the achievement gap, with much of those funds aimed at reading gains. We’ll share more in the coming days.
