The West Orange Chamber of Commerce is Your voice for Pro-Business issues.  The 2022 Legislative Session came to a close on March 14, 2022.  During the session, the WOCC shared our Legislative Position paper via numerous communication channels including email and social media.  The WOCC Legislative Position Paper had over 1600 impressions.  We are pleased that lawmakers passed the extension of COVID-19 liability protections for health care facilities to continue to protect our healthcare heroes as the pandemic continues and passed the reauthorization of VISIT FLORIDA.  In addition, the overreaching and overly litigious Consumer Data Privacy legislation was defeated.

Two items that were included in the budget but still needs to be approved by the Governor are the state funding of Town of Oakland’s South Lake Apopka Initiative (Alternative Water Project) and the funding of Valencia College.  The funding of the of Town of Oakland’s South Lake Apopka Initiative will assist in moving the Town from reliance on high quality drinking water to a lower quality water for irrigation demands.  Even with the funding allocated for Valencia College, it is the least funded on a per student basis college out of the 28 colleges in the state of Florida

To ensure that this funding request is approved, we are asking you to send an email to Governor DeSantis urging him to support of these budget requests.  Below is suggested verbiage.  All you have to do is copy/paste this into your email and send to GovernorRon.DeSantis@eog.myflorida.com.  Or, if you prefer, you can call the Governor’s office at 850-717-9337.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Krista at the Chamber office.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.  Sincerely, Krista

SUGGESTED EMAIL:

Dear Gov. DeSantis,

I am writing to ask that you support the funding of the Town of Oakland’s South Lake Apopka Initiative (Alternative Water Project) and the funding of Valencia College.  The Alternative Water Project is two-fold and will assist the State with important environmental priorities.  First, it will help reduce the nutrient-loading of Lake Apopka, with proven nitrogen and phosphorous removal technology. Second, it will help to conserve the high-quality potable water drawn from the aquifer.  The funding of Valencia College is needed to keep up the fast pace of growth and need in our growing region.   Even with this funding, Valencia College is the least funded on a per student basis college out of the 28 colleges in the state of Florida.

I ask you to approve the funding for both the Town of Oakland’s South Lake Apopka Initiative and Valencia College.
