National Women Build 2020 – West Orange Habitat For Humanity

National Women Build 2020 with West Orange Habitat For Humanity will involve hundreds of women to fundraise and dedicate one day to build homes, impact our community, make a difference for two single moms and learn new skills. Our local community needs us NOW more than ever before!

WHY we’re building. We will be building in the East Winter Garden community. A demographic study by the East Winter Garden Initiative reported 524 households, with a median income of $28,669, where 43% earn less than $25,000/year and an unemployment rate in this community of 25%.

Homeownership Builds Better Communities and Stronger Families

Compared to renters, homeowners are 10% more likely to attend church, 16% more likely to belong to parent-teach organizations, block clubs, etc, read newspapers 1.3 times more often, and are less likely to have alcohol and substance-abuse issues. Studies show children of homeowners are less likely to become teenage mothers, more likely to graduate from high school, graduate from college, have higher math and reading scores, are more likely to own a home within 10 years of moving from parents household (59%), and save taxpayers an estimated $34,000 in public expenditures that would have been spent had they remained in rented housing.
