Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital Brings Health and Wellness Services to the Community
Health and wellness are important aspects of you and your family’s life. On Jan. 30, 2021, Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital will open its doors to the community — expanding your family’s access to health services in a comforting environment, close to home.
“From the moment you walk into Horizon West Hospital, you feel how comfortable and welcoming the facility is for patients,” said Brian Wetzel, chief operating officer (COO) of the new Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital. “I’m proud of our team’s design work to create a beautiful community hospital that provides a sense of comfort and doesn’t feel cold or institutional.”
The beautiful six-story, 214,000-square-foot facility is located at the intersection of Porter Road and Avalon Road in Winter Garden. It features a 120 patient bed capacity, a 78,000-square-foot emergency department and a medical pavilion. The new hospital brings together comprehensive health services, personalized care, and state-of-the-art treatments in a convenient, one-stop facility.
Comprehensive Care for the Entire Family
Horizon West Hospital brings together experts in multiple specialties to provide complete health care for the whole family.
Patients have access to emergency care, cardiovascular care and surgical services with the hospital. In the medical pavilion adjacent to the hospital, patients have access to both primary (general) health care, as well as specialized physicians. These specialized medical services include orthopedics, gastroenterology, pulmonology, sports medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, sleep medicine and family medicine.
The benefit of this is that patients can see a doctor or specialist, get imaging, laboratory or diagnostic tests, and get the latest treatments all in one location. In instances where a patient may need services beyond the scope of Horizon West Hospital’s specialists, the facility takes advantage of being part of the Orlando Health family. Patients are connected to other hospitals in the system that can serve their needs.
Equipped for Emergencies
The emergency department at Horizon West has been open since 2018 and is seamlessly integrated into the new hospital. It features 24 exam rooms and six observation rooms. In addition, the hospital has four complete operating suites, a cardiac catheterization laboratory (cath lab) with diagnostic imaging for the heart, two endoscopy/bronchoscopy suites for lung and gastrointestinal care and 30 acute care beds for patients.
“This new facility includes capability to care for COVID-19 patients and teams throughout Orlando Health are trained to best care for these patients. The team at Horizon West is prepared to meet these needs as well,” said Wetzel.
State-of-the-art Technology and Treatments
Horizon West Hospital features the latest technology in cardiovascular care, diagnostic imaging and minimally invasive robotic surgery. It has state-of-the-art CT, MRI, X-ray and ultrasound equipment. This means patients will have access to the best technology that is currently available. The hospital also offers outpatient imaging and laboratory services to provide convenient access for those needs of the community.
Ready for Growth in Horizon West
Located in the flourishing community of Horizon West, the new hospital can grow along with the neighborhood as it expands. Horizon West is one of the fastest growing communities in the state of Florida and the country. Horizon West Hospital is prepared for this expansion with three floors set aside for the future as the number of patients grows.
“Horizon West Hospital is on an almost 80-acre campus. We have the growth capacity for the future, and our vision is to develop along with the community,” said Wetzel.
Personalized Care from Compassionate Physicians
Horizon West Hospital’s mission is to offer compassionate care to the local community. Although Horizon West Hospital is a new Orlando Health hospital, the level of care that patients have come to recognize from Orlando Health remains the same. The experienced and compassionate physicians and other team members at Horizon West Hospital offer personalized treatment plans that cater to each patient’s unique needs.
“We don’t just care for patients. We care about them,” said Wetzel.
