Bloom & Grow Garden Society Announces 20th Anniversary Street Festival, Spring Fever in the Garden Set for April 4 & 5, 2020

In Partnership with the City of Winter Garden

Presenting Sponsor – Healthy West Orange

On April 4th & 5th of 2020, the Bloom & Grow Garden Society of West Orange County will hold its 20th anniversary Spring Fever in the Garden festival in the historic downtown area of Winter Garden, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Plant Street will be filled with the quintessential homage to spring and gardening.  We invite you to experience it first hand by strolling the brick-lined street to take in all the festival has to offer.

Our many plant and garden vendors will be stocked with foliage including flowers, shrubs, trees, exotic flowers, succulents and a variety of indoor plants. Along with the plants, will be items pertaining to gardening and nature like wind chimes, garden art, worms, straw, etc.

A favorite booth at the festival is the Avian Reconditioning Center which specializes in raptor reconditioning and education. You can view owls and raptors up close and learn to appreciate Florida’s magnificent birds of prey and the natural habitats in which they live.

Have questions regarding your landscaping, lawn, garden pests, water conservation or attracting certain wildlife to your yard? Go to the Ask the Garden Experts booth and speak directly with someone who will answer your specific garden questions.

Our Kidszone is always the happiest place in Spring Fever because we know what kid’s like! We will have booths and activities geared to children with fun ways to learn about nature and the environment. There will be hands-on crafts, face painting, balloon animals made by a stilt walker and more.

The Chalkin it Up chalk art contest is open to artists of all ages. It starts first thing Saturday morning in the area around city hall when the artists begin to create a nature-related masterpiece on a cement square. $2000 in prizes will be awarded in numerous categories such as adult, individual elementary, middle and high school students and elementary, middle and high school groups. There will be $400 awarded for the people’s choice and $700 for the best overall drawing. And, you can vote for your favorites!

There’s free entertainment located in front of city hall. We provide a tent and chairs for you to sit and enjoy area musicians and singers. In previous years, we’ve had jazz bands, dance groups, and a variety of singers performing pop, easy listening, folk music, opera and more.

Stop by the Bloom & Grow booths where you will find the 20th anniversary tee shirt with an original design by artist, Andy Crabtree of Crabtree Ink. This year the design highlights our Monarch Project– a significant piece of public art of a monarch butterfly being donated to the City of Winter Garden by the Bloom & Grow Garden Society. And, the butterfly on the shirt will come to life using augmented reality after downloading the Winter Garden App to your cell phone.

There will be gardening gloves and Spring Fever in the Garden baseball hats for sale as well. All proceeds from the festival go to spread the love of gardening and nature in our community.

Due to ongoing construction in the downtown area, there will not be a plant pickup during the festival. We encourage you to bring carts or wagons to carry your plant purchases to your car.

This festival is set in charming, historic downtown Winter Garden, with its quaint shops, brick-lined streets, great restaurants, a splash pad for the kids, the city clock tower, lush landscaping, and a vine-covered gazebo area with a trickling fountain that offers a calming respite from the festival activity.  Come join us for our 20th anniversary celebration festival!

The Bloom & Grow Garden Society is a 135 member group that has been a force in the West Orange County area since the club’s inception in 1997.

The club’s mission is to stimulate a knowledge and love of gardening, promote and sustain native habitat, promote and sponsor educational horticultural experiences and civic involvement.

Projects like the Path of Life, a serenity garden located at Chapin’s Station, garnered the club the National Kellogg Award for civic beautification. Spring Fever in the Garden spring festival held in downtown Winter Garden will celebrate its 20th anniversary in April of 2020.

The scope of their philanthropy has widened over the years. The club’s sweat equity has been as great as the monetary donations with members working at West Orange Habitat for Humanity, Garden Therapy projects at area nursing homes, and landscape projects at Edgewood Children’s Rand, and Finding the Lost Sheep. They have provided funds to start youth gardens at area elementary schools and have set up scholarships at the University of Florida and Valencia college for students in environmental and horticultural sciences.

The Bloom & Grow Garden Society was proud to be part of the 1000 Trees for 1000 Years movement and complete a mass planting of 1000 bald cypress trees at Tucker Ranch Recreation and Nature Complex in Winter Garden on February 22, 2020.
