As we embark on another hurricane season, which begins on Thursday, June 1st, we are all reminded there are steps we should be taking to prepare.

The mere mention or sight of a hurricane near the shores of Florida brings on anxiety and stress. Our preparations generally focus on supplies – food staples, batteries, flashlights, generators and so much more. But there is another area we sometimes forget to add to the list of hurricane preparedness measures – financial readiness.

If you are like most people, it is difficult to begin thinking about financial readiness or what to do. Help is available. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) offers a wealth of information and guidance to assist consumers with the task of preparing for an impending storm. Additionally, the FTC provides guidance for spotting and dealing with players who appear offering aid that are less than stellar – Scammers.
