As we continue to cautiously re-open our economy, Equality Florida is taking action to bolster pro-equality businesses. Nationally, the LGBTQ community represents $917 billion in spending power , dollars on which the survival of small businesses hinge in our current economic climate. In an effort to support those businesses that have stood by the LGBTQ community over the years, Equality Florida is re-launching the website Open Doors which features an online multi-lingual, statewide directory of pro-equality businesses. By creating a centralized resource for Florida, pro-equality consumers can easily identify and patronize establishments with shared values of equality and dignity for all.

“Now, when our community is heavily impacted by the pandemic and a hostile administration, we need to make a conscious decision to spend our dollars with companies and businesses that have been our allies and have pledged to be open to all,” said Rene Cantu, Equality Florida Business Outreach Manager . “ This multilingual resource is part of our effort to ensure that people of color, LGBTQ people, and marginalized communities feel welcome and protected in their daily lives and can be selective about where they spend their dollars .”

The upgraded site hosts over 1,200 business listings from across the state of Florida. Site users will enjoy a dynamic GPS tracking system that allows them to search for businesses nearby, as well as an option to translate the site into any language. Users can also access specific information about a company’s safety precautions in response to COVID-19.

Open Doors Florida allows business owners to list their company by making a pledge during the sign-up process to employ non-discrimination policies in their establishment. The site also allows users to recommend their favorite business for listing by completing an online form.
