SUGGETED VERBIAGE:

Dear Senators Stargel and Brodeur,

The West Orange Chamber of Commerce (WOCC), the business voice for West Orange County that represents over 1100 businesses and over 150,000 employees, has supported the restoration of Lake Apopka for many years.  Thanks to the hard work of the state and St. Johns River Water Management District, the restoration of the lake has made substantial progress, yet, there is still much to be done.

The Land Acquisition Trust Fund 375.041 section (3)(b) 3 allocates $5 million per year towards the restoration of Lake Apopka.

We are asking that you help ensure the money designated for Lake Apopka restoration in the LATF statute is not blocked again this year in the state’s budget implementing bill, as has become the practice in the last several years.

SJRWMD has several innovative projects that could be funded with that money.

If we spend $5M now, we can avoid spending many more millions of dollars in coming years trying to claw back our lake. Thank you for your leadership and dedication to the state of Florida with your commitment to serve in the State Legislature.
